In case you have been on Mars, or someplace secluded, Amazon has recently set up their place into the food and grocery business and not surprisingly Walmart sees the writing on the wall; they now want to increase their online sales. Just like Amazon and E-Bay proven, the buying products online trend is here to stay, and Walmart knows it! So they have decided to match their corporate store name to their internet URL. It's certain that the department stores you have always known in your local malls are going to move to online sales, and fairly quickly. Once epic stores like Sears, J.C. Penny, Gap etc., are closing most brick & mortar stores and will follow the online sales path as the way of the future. Mall shopping is going to become a specialty event as they will be few and far between. The company announced Wednesday (Dec 6, 2016) that it's changing its official name from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., to Walmart Inc., effective February 1, 2018. ... The stylistic change from Wal-Mart to Walmart means the name now matches the retailer's web address, Walmart.com.”” Why does this matter to you? It’s my hope to prove that more consumers are finding what they need online and rejecting the effort of shopping on location more and more. Where companies once searched far and wide for the prime real estate location to reach the most customers, they are now seeking prime real estate on search engines such as Google. The NEW ‘top location’ is not the corner lot at Main and Elm, it’s the Google ranking and it’s only going to become more so! For you, getting there is still very doable but you won't get there by accident! Google Rankings and SEO By the NumbersMore than 85% of consumers now search online before making a product or service purchase! Quick math tells us that that leaves only 15 people out of every 100 that will find their product elsewhere, perhaps location shopping or word of mouth. As a business owner, If you don't have a website, or you have one that is simply not ranking on page one Google, your business is probably not doing anywhere near as well as it could or should be doing. And I would challenge you to find a phone book from the last few years if you are waiting for Yellow Pages to work. You instinctively know that a potential customer is going to do a ‘search’ on line. And now you know that 85% of consumers do a search - but here’s the punch in the face, 96% of those will not go past the first page of Google results. That means if you / your business is on page 2, you're not getting any significant traffic to your website, (actually only about 5% of the visitors will carry on to page 2 and 3). Investigating the stats further, 32% of potential customers select the business owns that number 1 spot. If it's you parked there, you're getting 32 visits or calls out of 100 searches. Money in the bank results. The #2 listing gets 19%, and #3 about 10%. When you take the 5% away that will carry on further to page 2, the remaining 34% is distributed within the balance of page 1 results. Further, studies indicate that “71% of searches resulted in a page 1 Google organic click. After calculating that first page gets all but about 5% of clicks, we’re left with Google Ads attaining a total of about 15% of clicks; and that is usually divided by up to 5 ads per page. Not a great return for first page placement.
